BALLER MOVE: Start
POSITIONAL VALUE: Borderline WR3/FLEX
ANALYSIS: Salvation is seemingly on the horizon for fantasy managers of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. While starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn't eligible to return to play until Week 8 at the earliest, Miami will face the Indianapolis Colts, who have one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.
#Colts defense by the numbers through five weeks:
PPG: 24.4 (25th)
Pass Yards: 1402 (29th)
Rush Yards: 785 (31st)Pressures: 49 (24th)
Pressure rate: 26.1% (30th)
Sacks: 12 (T-16th)
Blitz rate: 17.2% (31st)
Takeaways: 8 (T-6th)
Explosive plays allowed: 33 (T-30th)— Noah Compton (@nerlens_) October 8, 2024
This is the softest matchup the passing game will face all year. Waddle should have decent numbers. Despite this, he's only caught four passes each game from Weeks 2-5. His quarterback, Tyler Huntley, has supported just one game of double-digit points for a wide receiver this season, when Tyreek Hill scored 12.9 PPR fantasy points in Week 5.
It's disappointing that such a high fantasy draft pick like Waddle has been unstartable for so long, but the absence of Tagovailoa has made it tough to trust any Miami offensive player. Fantasy managers should be fine starting him as long as they don't have better options. He may not score much, but he's still better than most free agent pickups.
