J.J. Spaun A Risky Upside Play At Shriners Children's Open
1 month agoKnowing what to make of J.J. Spaun ahead of this week's event at TPC Summerlin is hard business. On the one hand, he was churning out solid finishes to end the regular season, but on the other hand, he withdrew at the Sanderson Farms after posting a 75 in the first rounds. Luckily, he came back last week in Utah to post a top-25, but with no real reason for quitting two weeks ago, it makes playing him in a lineup somewhat worrisome. The tour journeyman has a lengthy history at the Shriners Children's Open with more quality finishes than missed cuts. He checks the boxes from a ball-striking point of view, especially with the irons as the 34-year-old ranked 19th on the season in strokes gained on approach (+0.468). The putter will ultimately decide his fate, but on that front, he has as many poor performances as good ones at this venue. A case can be made for going either direction on him, and choosing the right way could win (or lose) your week at $9,900 on FanDuel.
