Mets Considering Carrying One Less Pitcher On NLCS Roster
2 months agoThe New York Mets are considering carrying one less pitcher on their NLCS roster, according to MLB.com reporter Anthony DiComo. The idea would be to open space for an extra bench player, such as Luisangel Acuna, to go along with Jeff McNeil (wrist). Two pitchers that the Mets have yet to use during the playoffs are Adam Ottavino and Danny Young. The decision on having an extra bench player will likely come on Saturday with Game 1 of the NLCS scheduled for Sunday. Of the two relievers, it may come down to the Mets' preference of having a right-hander (Ottavino) or a left-hander (Young) in their bullpen. Both posted decent yet uninspiring ERAs this season, with Ottavino posting a 4.34 ERA and Young posting a 4.54 ERA. Ottavino was much stronger in the second half of the season (3.43 ERA) than Young (4.70 ERA). DFS managers won't be affected by this decision, but Mets fans will certainly want their strongest arms in their bullpen to give them their first chance at appearing in a World Series since 2015.
