Todd Downing To Take Over Offensive Play-Calling For Jets
1 month agoNew York Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said on Thursday that passing-game coordinator Todd Downing will take over the offensive play-calling from offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett after the organization fired head coach Robert Saleh earlier this week. Instead of also firing Hackett, the Jets instead are demoting him. Downing will have "the full say on the game plan and, ultimately, the plays that are called within the game," according to Ulbrich. Ulbrich also said he will remain the defensive coordinator and will continue to call plays. In 22 games under Hackett (only five full games with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this year), the Jets' offense ranked among the worst in the league, ranking 29th in points per game (16.4) and 30th in total yards per game (273). Rodgers is averaging only 6.0 yards per attempt, the lowest of his career through five games.
