Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt hasn't been on the team for very long but has already seemingly earned a big role in the offense. After rookie back Carson Steele fumbled the ball for the second time in the last two games, Hunt took over as the lead back, and Steele only had one more opportunity (a single target) for the rest of the game.
The Week 5 backfield will likely be a blend of mostly Hunt and Samaje Perine. Perine isn't likely to be the lead back or have a workhorse role as he's mostly been a third-down and passing-down option in his past few seasons. That's probably why the Chiefs signed him anyway.
Hunt is now on the Chiefs' injury report, though. Will he play this week? Let's figure it out.

Kareem Hunt Injury Update for Fantasy Football
It's possible, but we don't know for sure yet. Hunt has a shoulder injury, and it's not clear when exactly he picked it up. It's difficult to determine when his injury happened if it happened in their Week 4 game, but there was one play that could've caused his ailment.
As speculated, it was indeed THIS PLAY that Kareem Hunt injured his shoulder on. 🙏

Fantasy managers who recently picked up Hunt will just have to stay updated on the situation, though. That being said, it's not reported to be serious. It seems more likely than not that he will play.
Kareem Hunt Fantasy Football Outlook
If he plays, he's a solid start. He'll likely take the early down and goal-line work unless the Chiefs want Steele to fumble it again. It was clear in Week 4 that they didn't want to risk that, though. Hunt had solid efficiency last week, logging 4.9 yards per carry against a tough Los Angeles Chargers run defense.

He's making nice plays and looks to be better than both Perine and Steele, so his role as the lead is probably secured for now. Steele went undrafted this year and is a rookie, so it makes sense that there are some growing pains and/or he's not starting material anyway. There's a strong possibility the Chiefs signed Hunt with the idea that he'd be the lead as well.
Hunt has a decently tough matchup against the Saints, but his role is valuable and he's playing on a good offense with a good offensive line, so he should be fine.
