Week 5 will mean time off for the Lions, Chargers, Eagles, and Titans. With these teams at their bye week, fantasy managers will be without Sam LaPorta and Dallas Goedert. But it’s business as usual for other clubs, with tight ends around the National Football League in danger of sitting.
Being up-to-date on NFL injury news can give you an edge over your league mates in fantasy football. Now that the regular season has begun, fantasy managers should stay locked into the latest injury headlines.

Evan Engram Injury Update
The Jaguars are winless to start the 2024-25 campaign. Jacksonville has struggled offensively, and it hasn’t helped that the Jags haven’t had Engram in the lineup. The veteran has been sidelined since Week 2 when he injured his hamstring ahead of the matchup with the Browns.
Fortunately, he practiced on Wednesday, albeit limited, so it appears he’s moving in a positive direction. Still, Engram has some hurdles to clear. If he misses another contest, Brenton Strange will be in line for more snaps.

Yet, Strange has only eight catches and a touchdown in the last three games, making him nearly irrelevant in nearly any fantasy format imaginable.
Cole Kmet Injury Update
Kmet was limited in Wednesday’s practice due to a knee issue. With that in mind, he hasn’t been the most productive fantasy option, so there aren’t many managers anxiously awaiting an update regarding his availability for Sunday’s contest against Carolina.
DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, and Keenan Allen should pick up the slack if he's not on the field. But since Kmet isn’t the most reliable option, at least from a fantasy standpoint, his potential absence won’t mean that much of an uptick in targets for the trio.
George Kittle Injury Update
Kittle has been one of the league’s few productive tight ends this season. However, he’s battled a few injuries. The 30-year-old wasn’t in the lineup for the NFC West clash with the Rams.
While he managed to suit up versus the Patriots in Week 4, he briefly exited the contest because of a rib injury. Kittle didn’t practice on Wednesday, so he’s in danger of missing Sunday’s meeting with the Arizona Cardinals.

If that happens, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel Sr. would be the favorites to see extra attention from Brock Purdy. At the same time, Jauan Jennings would remain a flex option, at the very least. The same can’t be said for Eric Saubert, the Niners backup tight end.
Trey McBride Injury Update
The Cardinals haven’t had McBride in the mix because of a concussion. He suffered the injury in Week 3 versus the Lions and wasn’t available in Week 4 against the Washington Commanders.
McBride did practice somewhat on Wednesday, which is good. However, he has a way to go before being cleared, meaning Elijah Higgins could remain atop the depth chart in Week 5 against the Niners.

But Higgins has only six catches through the first four weeks of the year, so fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a replacement.
David Njoku Injury Update
Unsurprisingly, Njoku began the week by logging a limited practice session after suffering a high ankle sprain in the loss to the Cowboys in Week 1.
This injury can be difficult to come back from, making his availability for Week 5 against the Commanders far from a lock.
Still, fantasy managers should monitor things over the next few days, although Jordan Akins isn’t someone to consider in any fantasy setup if Njoku remains on the shelf.
