Los Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards is coming off a career year in 2023. However, the veteran running back changed teams in the offseason and has severely regressed.
Edwards is the RB59 over the first month, averaging only three half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He has had little impact on offense, with J.K. Dobbins playing at a high level.
Should fantasy players drop Edwards? Let’s dive into it.

Should I Drop Gus Edwards?
The veteran running back has scored 5.9 or fewer fantasy points in every game this season. He hasn’t totaled more than 26 rushing yards in all but one contest. Furthermore, Edwards hasn’t found the end zone after totaling double-digits in 2023.
More importantly, he has averaged three yards per rushing attempt this year, the second-worst average among running backs with at least 30 attempts. Edwards has seen his role on offense disappear. After totaling 19 rushing attempts over the first two weeks, the veteran has nine over the past two contests.
Fewest yards per carry among RBs with 30+ carries this season:
Breece Hall (3.1)
Zamir White (3.1)
D'Andre Swift (3)
Gus Edwards (3)

Fantasy players can drop him without thinking twice about it. Edwards has his bye this week and then faces the Denver Broncos in Week 6. The veteran running back is only valuable to fantasy players with Dobbins on their team as a handcuff.
Who Can I Add Off The Waiver Wire?
While Clyde Edwards-Helaire will rejoin the team this week, Kareem Hunt is my favorite Kansas City Chiefs running back to roster. The veteran played well in his first game this season, totaling 16 touches for 85 scrimmage yards and 9.5 fantasy points in Week 4.

Hunt is rostered in only 38% of Yahoo leagues. While Samaje Perine, Carson Steele, and Edwards-Helaire will have a role in the backfield, the veteran was clearly the team’s top running back against the Chargers.
Fantasy players should make Hunt their top waiver-wire priority at the running back position this week.
