Longtime Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon had a fantastic start to his Houston Texans career in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, but unfortunately, he got banged up in Week 2 and has missed each of the last two weeks.
Since Mixon rushed 30 times for 159 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 19 yards to open the season, his fantasy managers are surely wondering when he will be back in action for their rosters.
When is Mixon coming back for fantasy football? What's his fantasy outlook when he returns? Let's dive in.

Joe Mixon Injury Update for Fantasy Football
Mixon (ankle) handled 12 touches in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears, but he was ineffective while dealing with an ankle injury for much of the contest. The 28-year-old did not practice at all leading up to Week 3, but he returned for a limited practice session on Friday before Sunday's Week 4 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was given a "doubtful" designation on Friday afternoon and was officially ruled out 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday.
Texans RB Joe Mixon, listed as questionable for today due to a sprained ankle, is out today vs. the Jaguars.

There's no guarantee Mixon will play in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills, but his late-week return to practice is a promising sign for his potential availability. Fantasy managers should monitor his practice status beginning on Wednesday.
Joe Mixon Fantasy Football Outlook
With Mixon potentially returning in Week 5, he can be viewed as a low-end RB1 right away. The Bills have allowed the most fantasy points per game to running backs this year, so Mixon could be set up for a monster game despite injury concerns.

Cam Akers was largely ineffective in his spot starts and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) has also been banged up, so while we can't expect 33 touches like in Week 1, Mixon could do a ton of damage with at least 20 opportunities. If he's back, put him in your lineups. It's that simple.
