Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has massive upside but never turned into a fantasy football star because of injury. The third-year receiver has dealt with multiple injuries in his career, missing 29% of the contests.
Watson had a decent Week 1 performance, totaling three receptions in five targets for 13 receiving yards and a touchdown, scoring 8.8 half-point PPR fantasy points. Unfortunately, Jordan Love’s knee injury forced fantasy players to bench the young receiver.
While Love returned in Week 4, Watson only had one target and zero fantasy points after playing only 12% of the snaps. Unfortunately, the third-year player suffered another injury.

Is Christian Watson Hurt Or Healthy?
Watson suffered a high-ankle sprain in yesterday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Reportedly, there is no fracture in his ankle. However, the team could place the third-year receiver on injured reserve, knocking him out of the lineup for at least four games. Unfortunately, Watson being injured is nothing new to the Packers or fantasy players.
No fracture for Christian Watson, but a high-ankle sprain that could land him on Injured Reserve. https://t.co/hMuZszb2LS

Waiver Wire Replacement Options For Christian Watson
Thankfully, Green Bay has one of the top wide receiver units in the NFL. Dontayvion Wicks struggles to see the field when everyone is healthy but is outstanding when Watson misses time. The second-year receiver has three career games where he had a 70% or higher route participation rate, scoring 15.7 or more PPR fantasy points in every contest.
Dontayvion Wicks has reached a 70% route participation or higher in three games.
2023 Week 15: 15.7 fantasy points
2023 Week 18: 24.1 fantasy points
2024 Week 4: 23.8 fantasy pointsIs it a small sample? Yes.
Should you be tentative on the waiver wire? No.
Wicks is a baller.

Wicks is rostered in only 14% of Yahoo leagues. Yet, that number should jump into the 70% or higher range this week. He had five receptions on 13 targets for 78 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and 22.3 half-point PPR fantasy points in Week 4. He will fill the void left by Watson.
Fantasy players shouldn’t be shy about spending a significant amount of their free agent acquisition budget on the second-year wide receiver, especially if Watson ends up on injured reserve. The Packers have one of the top passing offenses in the NFL. No one should be surprised if Wicks is the team’s second-best fantasy pass catcher behind Jayden Reed until Watson returns.
