Alex Ovechkin Notches Assist In Preseason Debut
2 months agoWashington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin collected an assist in Wednesday's 5-3 victory over New Jersey. Washington's captain made his first appearance of the preseason after battling an undisclosed injury at the start of training camp. He linked up with John Carlson to help Dylan Strome score the team's fourth goal at the 13:47 mark in the third period. Ovechkin registered a game-high five hits across 14:25 of action but failed to register any shots on goal with two attempts. The injury left a cloud hanging over Ovechkin, but it looks like it wasn't anything serious, and the Russian sniper will be ready to start chasing down Wayne Gretzky's goal record when the season kicks off. The Capitals have three more preseason games scheduled, giving Ovechkin further opportunities to shake off some rust.
