ANALYSIS: Samaje Perine is set to be one of the hottest waiver adds in fantasy football this week, after Chiefs starting running back Isiah Pacheco fractured his fibula during their Week Two win over the Bengals.
Perine was in camp with the Broncos but was ultimately cut and signed with the Chiefs just before the season. He was brought in by Kansas City to take on the passing down role that was Jerick McKinnon's the last several seasons.
He's been a non-factor in the first two games of the season, catching just one of two targets for 13 yards with no rushing attempts.
But now it looks like his role could grow with Pacheco out and the only other running back on the roster being unproven rookie fullback Carson Steele.
Samaje Perine is the preferred pickup over Carson Steele.
But on one of my teams (Zero RB), I'm pretty desperate and already have Perine on my roster.
I'm probably going to still use my waiver (#1) on Steele just in case I'm wrong.
Need to make sure I secure the Chiefs RB.

Perine was a valuable backup to Joe Mixon in Cincinnati from 2020 to 2022, averaging over four yards per carry while also being a productive receiver out of the backfield. We don't know yet how the snaps and touches will break down between Steele and Perine just yet, but he's well worth a generous FAAB bid this week, especially in PPR formats.
