Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing obtained a finish of third in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. It is the first top-5 of 2025 for the driver of the No. 54 Toyota after struggling throughout the year so far. Beginning the race from the sixth position, Gibbs lost ground early and fell outside of the top 10 as several cars passed him. Gibbs spent the rest of the stage moving up through the field and made it to ninth by the ned of the first stage, scoring two stage points. The second stage was quiet for Gibbs as he ran inside the top 10 for the entire time in the stage. He gained more positions during the stage, finishing it in seventh place while gaining even more stage points. In the final stage, Gibbs raced up to the top five, competing against Alex Bowman and Carson Hocevar before falling back to fifth. The No. 54 Toyota team then pitted earlier than some other drivers and used fresh tires to get up to third while competing for second against Denny Hamlin. Ultimately, Gibbs settled for third by the end of the race, collecting a new career-best Cup Series finish at Bristol in the process.

Ty Gibbs has arguably been 2025's biggest disappointment because normally young drivers on top teams are supposed to rapidly progress while Gibbs has been significantly slower in 2025 since losing his old crew chief Chris Gayle to Denny Hamlin's No. 11. However, Gibbs is starting to turn it around as his Martinsville run was solid when considering his cool suit was failing and he was spun out by Tyler Reddick and Gibbs finally earned his first top ten in 14 starts at Darlington, and he followed up by qualifying 6th at Darlington yesterday, his best start of the season. Since Gibbs had arguably the two best race of his career with a combined 239 laps led in the 2023 Bristol Night Race and last year's March race, Gibbs is one of the best DFS options if you think he'll lead a lot of laps. However, the fact that Hamlin won his first short track race with Gayle while Gibbs markedly fell off suggests that Gibbs will need more time to jell with his new crew chief Tyler Allen before he fights for a win again.

Ty Gibbs of Joe Gibbs Racing placed ninth in Sunday's Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway. Beginning Sunday's race from the 11th position, Gibbs put himself behind early during the first stage after making an early pit stop. The No. 54 Toyota driver struggled to make moves and ended the first stage in 33rd. In the second stage, Gibbs and his team improved their car and, through pit strategies, finally made ground. Gibbs would end the second stage in the seventh position and score three stage points. In the final stage, Gibbs kept out of trouble and maintained his position in the top 10 throughout most of the entire stage. As a result, Gibbs ended the race with his first top-10 finish since Kansas in September 2024. This is also his third career top-10 finish at Darlington.

Ty Gibbs finally stopped the bleeding somewhat in last week's race at Martinsville as he had his best run and finish in an otherwise disastrous season after his crew chief Chris Gayle was replaced by Tyler Allen. Gibbs did earn the only second-place finish of his career in last year's Darlington event, but that came during a relative career hot streak while he is suffering his greatest slump now. The fact that Gayle just dominated with Denny Hamlin and gave him his first win at Martinsville in a decade suggests that Allen might be a substantially worse crew chief and Gibbs may still be in a bit of a funk personally after flipping his High Limit car three weeks ago. It wouldn't be shocking if he led the race since he did last year, but given his current negative momentum and the fact that he only qualified 11th, he likely won't.
