Detroit Tigers pitcher Brant Hurter was nearly perfect on Friday night, throwing 5 2/3 hitless innings with just one walk in the Tigers' 1-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. Hurter struck out eight and walked just one batter en route to picking up the win and improving his record to 5-1 on the season. Hurter has been very solid for the Tigers this season, generally pitching in relief after Detroit uses an opener for him. He's also been on the verge of positive regression, as his 3.00 ERA coming into Friday (2.56 ERA after Friday) was paired with a 2.47 xERA. Fantasy managers looking for pitching help may be wise to look at Hurter going forward as a reliable bullpen option. With the 26-year-old benefitting from an opener, he's not scheduled for a start soon, but he will likely get another rematch in Baltimore against these same Orioles next weekend.--Kevin Larson - RotoBaller

Detroit Tigers left-hander Brant Hurter picked up a save in a 9-6 win over the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Hurter allowed two runs on three hits over three innings while striking out two to earn the first save of his career. The veteran southpaw has now made two appearances for the Tigers in 2025, allowing three earned runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings of work. The Detroit closer situation is in flux after they demoted 2024 closer Jason Foley to Triple-A ahead of Opening Day, but Hurter is going to have to do a better job at limiting runs if he wants to work his way into the ninth-inning committee the Tigers appear content on utilizing.--Matt T - RotoBaller

Detroit Tigers left-handed pitcher Brant Hurter could be in danger of losing a spot on the major-league roster. Cody Stavenhagen of the Athletic noted that with the Tigers bringing in Andrew Chafin, Hurter could be the most "vulnerable." Given Hurter's slow start in spring training, Chafin would likely replace his spot in the bullpen. Last season, Hurter held a 2.58 ERA with a 0.88 WHIP across 45 1/3 innings. He tallied 38 punchouts and showed elite command, serving up walks at a strong 3.8 percent. However, Stavenhagen noted that Hurter's command during spring training has been "iffy" which could eventually push him out of this role. If the 26-year-old can return to form during the final month of spring training, he should be in a good position to break the Opening Day roster. If he earns a spot, he will likely be deployed as a long relief option, carrying little value in fantasy formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen writes that Detroit Tigers left-hander Brant Hurter has a compelling case to start the 2025 season in the starting rotation, but he might be behind the eight ball, especially if the Tigers give Kenta Maeda another shot in a starting role. Hurter could be moved to a relief role, but another option is that Detroit will have him function in a swing role. Tarik Skubal, Reese Olson and Jack Flaherty are all locked into the starting rotation, with Alex Cobb, Jackson Jobe, Casey Mize and Keider Montero also options. The 26-year-old Hurter could be perfect in a bulk-relief role for the Tigers after he made his MLB debut in 2024. In 10 outings (one start), he allowed 13 earned runs while walking six and striking out 38 in 45 1/3 frames. Hurter has some fantasy upside in AL-only and dynasty leagues, but he may be nothing more than a matchup-based streamer in DFS in 2025, depending on his role.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
