Fantasy Football Injury Reports For Week 2 (Thursday Updates): Josh Jacobs, Kenneth Walker III, Jameson Williams, Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins, more

Kenneth Walker III - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Fantasy football injury updates and injury reports for RB, WR, TE, QB for Week 2 (2024), as of 9/12, including Josh Jacobs, Kenneth Walker III, Jameson Williams, Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins, and more.

We're only approaching Week 2 of the 2024 fantasy football season, yet there are already plenty of injury concerns around the NFL. Our injury updates and reports for Week 2 as of Thursday, September 12, 2024, will give you the latest updates on key guys.

Some players on this list are at greater risk of missing Week 2 than others, but you never know who could be a surprising scratch on game day. Josh Jacobs, Kenneth Walker III, Jameson Williams, Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins, and more are banged up heading into Week 2. Fantasy managers should be ready to pivot should things go south.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Josh Jacobs Injury Update

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (back) was limited in practice on Wednesday with a back injury, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. The Packers are likely easing the practice workload on their newly acquired running back prior to their Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Jacobs saw a heavy workload on Friday evening against the Eagles as presumed backup MarShawn Lloyd was inactive with a hamstring injury. Jacobs logged a hefty 42 offensive snaps in that game.

Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Jacobs' status prior to the weekend. Lloyd was also a limited participant in practice as well. If Jacobs were to face any limitations in Week 2, Emanuel Wilson would likely see an uptick in work.

Kenneth Walker III Injury Update

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III (oblique) did not take part in the team's first practice of the week on Wednesday. Walker suffered an oblique injury in the Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday, but luckily his injury forced him out of the game late and he was able to provide 20 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown before leaving.

He also added two catches for six yards. The 23-year-old is considered day-to-day as of Wednesday, but his status for the Week 2 contest against the New England Patriots is very much up in the air. Walker is a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 if he's active as Seattle's lead back, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he carries a questionable tag into the weekend. If Walker doesn't get cleared to play, backup Zach Charbonnet would work as Seattle's starting RB. Charbonnet is rostered in only 51% of Yahoo leagues currently.

Jameson Williams Injury Update

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams (ankle) was limited at practice on Wednesday, according to Richard Silva of the Detroit News. The 23-year-old did not show any injury concerns earlier this week, so the Lions could be leaning on the side of caution with their former first-round pick. Williams saw very limited playing time throughout the first two seasons of his career but began to find some consistency late last season.

In the season opener on Sunday, the Alabama product led all Detroit pass-catchers with 121 yards. This was highlighted by an impressive 52-yard touchdown catch. Fantasy managers should follow Williams' status prior to Sunday. The wideout is shaping up to be a high-end flex play as the Lions face the Buccaneers in a Divisional Round rematch.

Kyler Murray Injury Update

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) was listed on the team's first practice report for Week 2 on Wednesday, but he practiced in full and should be fine to play this Sunday against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams. It's something to watch moving forward, but it shouldn't make fantasy managers hesitant to use the 27-year-old signal-caller as a QB1 in starting lineups this weekend. Murray was inconsistent in the Week 1 loss on the road to the Buffalo Bills, going 21-for-31 for 162 yards and a touchdown.

He also had five carries for 57 yards and a lost fumble. Murray connected with rookie first-round receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. just once for four yards. It's nothing to be too concerned about yet, and Murray's rushing abilities at QB give him QB1 upside most weeks. Expect Murray to look Harrison's way a lot more in Week 2.

Kirk Cousins Injury Update

Kirk Cousins (Achilles) provided an update on his health following his Week 1 return during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show Wednesday morning. Cousins expressed satisfaction with his ankle and Achilles, saying, "I felt good honestly. I was really pleased with how my ankle felt, not just the Achilles, but my ankle felt really good." Despite this positive report, Cousins' performance was underwhelming after his return from an Achilles tear.

His play was marred by questionable interceptions, including one thrown into double coverage. Additionally, Cousins played mainly from the pistol formation and only went under center twice, limiting his opportunities for play-action, which he typically relies on for success. With the Philadelphia Eagles coming up on Monday night, Cousins remains a risky fantasy option until he demonstrates full recovery and improved performance.

DeAndre Hopkins Injury Update

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said on Wednesday that veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (knee) should be closer to full-go for the Week 2 game against the New York Jets, but the team will still be mindful of what they ask him to do as he gets into shape. As a result, Callahan said he sees Hopkins' role growing in practice and this coming Sunday after he played just 27% of the offensive snaps in the Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears, which ranked fourth behind Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, and even Treylon Burks.

The 32-year-old finished with just one catch on his only target for eight yards. Expect to see Hopkins on the field more this weekend, but against one of the best secondaries in the league, fantasy managers would probably be wise to keep Hopkins on their benches as he continues to work past a knee injury. Hopkins practiced in full on Wednesday.

Jake Ferguson Injury Update

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (knee) was held out of practice on Wednesday. The 25-year-old suffered an MCL sprain and a bone bruise in the season opener but has yet to be ruled out for Week 2. Earlier this week, head coach Mike McCarthy expressed that the tight remains "optimistic" about his chances to play on Sunday. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Ferguson's practice status as he will need to log at least one session prior to the weekend to have a good chance to suit up on Sunday.

Before the injury, Ferguson caught three of his five targets for 15 yards in Week 1. If Ferguson were to sit out on Sunday, Luke Schoonmaker will likely serve as the starting option and could be a sneaky play in DFS formats.

Russell Wilson Injury Update

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson (calf), who didn't play in the season-opening win over the Atlanta Falcons, opened the week on the injury report and was limited on Wednesday. "He feels better (Tuesday) than he did over the weekend," said head coach Mike Tomlin of Wilson. "But as I sit here Tuesday, we're preparing as if Justin is going to be our quarterback. I think that's the appropriate way to do it. Speculation is a waste of time."

Fields didn't do anything to wow and didn't even lead the offense to a single touchdown, but he didn't turn the ball over, which is most important. For now, Wilson is day-to-day, but things are trending toward Fields getting a second straight start in Denver in Week 2 against the Broncos. Until he can get back on the field, the 35-year-old Wilson is only worth stashing in Superflex fantasy leagues. (Steelers.com)

Josh Palmer Injury Update

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Josh Palmer (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice according to the team's injury report ahead of a Week 2 matchup against Carolina. Palmer recorded two catches for 15 yards on four targets in Week 1.

He has a good matchup in Week 2 if he can suit up, so it is worth tracking his practice participation in the next few days. He was third on the team in targets in the opener behind rookie Ladd McConkey (7) and Quentin Johnson (5).

Josh Reynolds, Devaughn Vele Injury Update

Denver Broncos wide receivers Josh Reynolds (Achilles) and Devaughn Vele (ribs) were both listed as non-participants in Wednesday's practice. Both wideouts were pivotal pieces in Denver's passing attack against the Seahawks despite the 26-20 loss. Vele and Reynolds each tied for second on the team with eight targets (Courtland Sutton - 12), while the former caught all eight of his --albeit for 39 yards -- and the latter led the team with 45 yards and a long gain of 25.

For either player to participate in the Broncos' Week 2 home tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they'll need to get in at least one limited session before the weekend. Of note: while the rookie wideout averaged just 4.9 yards a grab this past Sunday, he was in on 34 of Denver's snaps (49%) and ran 83.9% of his routes from the slot. After a one-game sample, at least -- it would appear Sean Payton has found his "big-slot" guy. (MileHighReport)
