BALLER MOVE: Bench In Single-TE Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: Low-End TE2
ANALYSIS: The Miami Dolphins signed Jonnu Smith to be their starting tight end this season, and he'll make his debut with the team on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Smith came on strong during his lone season with Atlanta in 2023, catching a career-high 50 passes for 582 yards and three touchdowns. He now joins a Miami team that struggled to get production out of Durham Smythe and its other tight ends in 2023.
Smith sits atop the Dolphins' depth chart at tight end, but that doesn't mean he's a lock to produce. As mentioned, Smythe was off the fantasy radar last year. Smith will have to compete for opportunities in a crowded offense that also includes Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, De'Von Achane, and Raheem Mostert.
Mike McDaniel's offense didn't prioritize the tight end position last year, but that could simply be a product of him not trusting the players at the position. The head coach has made it clear that the ball will go to talented players who earn opportunities, and Smith could be one of those players.
Jonnu Smith is gonna be really fun to watch this season, isn’t he? 👀pic.twitter.com/2zYyxPpysQ

Also working in Smith's favor is his matchup against Jacksonville. The Jaguars allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to tight ends in 2023.
Under normal fantasy circumstances, these factors could make Smith a low-end TE1. However, this season, there is more talent at tight end than usual. Similarly, since it's Week 1, there are fewer prominent players dealing with injuries and no bye weeks. With so much depth at the tight end position around the league, Smith falls outside the TE1 tier.
This week, Smith should be treated as a TE2. He's worth rostering, but it will be tough to justify starting him in single-tight end leagues.

BALLER MOVE: Sit in 12-Team Leagues POSITIONAL VALUE: WR5 ANALYSIS: Even if A.J. Brown misses time, Philadelphia Eagles WR Jahan Dotson isn't worth putting in your starting lineups. He's brand new to the Eagles offensive scheme, hasn't had much time to adjust, and isn't a good receiver anyway. Dotson was let go by the Commanders […]
