Fantasy Baseball Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Picks - Dylan Crews, Connor Norby, Bailey Ober, Mitch Keller, More

Bailey Ober - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, Draft Sleepers

Welcome RotoBallers to another edition of my 2024 fantasy baseball start/sit article for Week 24, September 2 - September 8. This week's article will focus on Dylan Crews, Connor Norby, Miguel Amaya, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Tobias Myers, Spencer Schwellenbach, Bailey Ober, and Mitch Keller. Whether you are prepping to set your weekly lineups or determining who to play in a pivotal daily matchup, choosing who to start vs. sit is one of the most nerve-racking and potentially frustrating aspects of fantasy baseball. Fortunately, there is a free solution available at RotoBaller.

The Who Should I Start Tool allows you to quickly compare up to four players and receive fantasy projections for today, tomorrow, the current week, next week, or the rest of the season. The tool provides rankings, projections, recent news, and schedules side-by-side to aid in your decision-making. The tool defaults to ESPN scoring, but the Premium version within Team Sync will automatically use your league's scoring and roster settings when making recommendations.

Each week, I will use the tool to review a few interesting start/sit comparisons for the final day of the period and preview the following week. Let's get into some start vs. sit comparisons for the week ahead, September 2 - September 8!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and weekly lineup resources:

Fantasy Baseball Recently Called Up Rookies

Dylan Crews (OF) vs. Connor Norby (2B/3B)

Our first comparison is between two exciting rookies who recently joined their big-league teams. Dylan Crews is baseball's No. 3 overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline. Connor Norby has hit an impressive .318 since joining the Marlins on August 19. Which player has a better chance to make an impact now?

RotoBaller gives Norby a strong recommendation for Sunday. Norby will face a tougher matchup but has a clear projections advantage in runs and a slight projection advantage in all other categories. The projections are pretty close between the two, but Norby is projected to get more playing time, giving him the edge.

Looking to Week 25, the Nationals will face a favorable road trip with two games at the Marlins and four at the Pirates. The Marlins will face tougher matchups with two games against the Nationals and four against the Phillies.

Positional need may come into play for this decision. While Crews has a higher pedigree than Norby, Norby produced at a higher level at Triple-A and has accumulated slightly more big-league playing time. I would be conservative for fantasy managers in win-now situations and go with Norby for Week 25.

Fantasy Baseball Hot Cubs Rookies

Miguel Amaya (C) vs. Pete Crow-Armstrong (OF)

Our next comparison is between two Cubs rookies who have produced offensively lately. Miguel Amaya has had a great August, slashing .318/.348/.576. Pete Crow-Armstrong has also had a solid August, batting .325 with four home runs and six stolen bases. Which player can continue to help fantasy managers?

Crow-Armstrong gets a strong recommendation for Sunday. Amaya had a batting average projection advantage, but Crow-Armstrong has projection advantages in all other categories. His biggest advantage unsurprisingly comes in stolen bases.

The Cubs will face middling matchups in Week 25, with three games against the Pirates and three against the Yankees. They are slated to face two lefties, which benefits Crow-Armstrong.

PCA will likely draw more consistent playing time and is the clear choice for fantasy managers looking for stolen bases. However, Amaya's success has extended back to July. As such, I will give the nod to Amaya for Week 25 except for fantasy managers in roto leagues looking to catch up in stolen bases.

Fantasy Baseball Risky Starters

Tobias Myers vs. Spencer Schwellenbach

Our next comparison is between two useful fantasy starters who draw tough Week 24 matchups. Tobias Myers has a pedestrian 4.30 ERA in his last three starts and will be in Cincinnati. Spencer Schwellenbach has provided useful stats but will be at the Phillies. Which pitcher has a safer floor over their next couple of starts?

RotoBaller gives Myers a strong recommendation for Sunday. Myers draws a better matchup, and while Schwellenbach has a clear strikeout projection advantage, his projected 4.77 ERA and 1.38 WHIP are much higher than Myers'.

Both players will draw favorable Week 25 matchups, with Schwellenbach going against the Blue Jays and Myers going at home against the Rockies. Myers has compiled a lower ERA, but Schwellenbach offers much higher strikeout upside. As such, I will give him the Week 25 nod.

Fantasy Baseball Bounceback Candidates

Bailey Ober vs. Mitch Keller

Our final comparison is between two pitchers who posted rough last outings. Bailey Ober allowed a disastrous nine earned runs in two innings, while Mitch Keller only managed four IP and took a loss. Both have been fantasy assets at times this season; which one can bounce back faster?

RotoBaller gives Ober a strong recommendation. Ober draws a better matchup. Keller has a slight strikeout projection advantage but Ober has a much better ERA and WHIP projection advantage, tilting things in his favor.

Ober is slated to face the Royals on the road in his next start, while Keller will face the Nationals. Ober's last start was much worse than Keller's and he draws a tougher matchup. However, Keller has a bloated 4.97 ERA in seven second-half starts. I'll go with the higher floor in Ober for Week 25.
