Top 25 Fantasy Baseball Prospects To Stash (Week 23): Redraft Rankings

Jasson Dominguez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Eric Cross's top 25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings for Week 23 (2024). MLB prospects, rookies, call-ups who can be fantasy baseball sleepers in redraft leagues.

With under 45 days left in the 2024 regular season, we're now in the period where MLB teams can call up prospects without burning a year of service time. This usually means we see some notable promotions over the final month, sometimes even a surprise name or two that we didn't expect.

Could that surprise name be Roman Anthony in Boston? Or maybe Samuel Basallo in Baltimore?

Remember, stashing fantasy baseball prospects should be done strategically and varies from league to league. Don't leave your teams without much depth just because you want all the high-upside prospects on your roster.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings Analysis

Jasson Dominguez, New York Yankees

In six games back in Triple-A since his one-game stint with the Yankees as the extra man for a doubleheader on August 18, Dominguez has picked up 11 hits, three extra-base hits, and five steals. He's also hitting .378 with four extra-base hits and nine steals over his last 11 Triple-A games after starting the month of August in a bit of a funk at the plate.

Meanwhile, Alex Verdugo continues to provide the Yankees with little to nothing at the plate, slashing .205/.281/.282 this month and .196/.267/.277 with only two home runs over his last 57 games. The swap is going to happen, hopefully, sooner rather than later.

Coby Mayo, Baltimore Orioles

In six games since being optioned back to Triple-A, Coby Mayo has six hits, a home run, and three walks. However, he's also struck out in eight of his 24 plate appearances (33.3%) after striking out in half of his 20 plate appearances during his brief stint with the Orioles earlier this month.

Mayo getting another shot isn't out of the question, but I'm sure Baltimore wants to see him curb the recent strikeout woes before doing so unless there's an injury that opens up a spot.

Owen Caissie, Chicago Cubs

With two home runs on Sunday, Owen Caissie now has seven in his last 27 games with a .247/.327/.516 slash line during that span. There were rumblings that he would get the call to Chicago in September, but it's hard to see him playing regularly at the moment as the outfield and DH spots are occupied by Cody Bellinger, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ, and Seiya Suzuki.

Matt Shaw, Chicago Cubs

I'm starting to wonder if Matt Shaw gets the call before Owen Caissie, given that Shaw can play multiple infield positions. After starting the season slowly in April/May, Shaw has slashed .313/.393/.549 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs, and 18 steals over his last 63 games while playing second base, third base, and shortstop.

Both Isaac Paredes and Michael Busch are struggling mightily right now, so it's plausible to see Shaw get the call to play third, with Paredes sliding over to first. If he does get the call, Shaw's power/speed blend would be intriguing for fantasy.

Dalton Rushing, Los Angeles Dodgers

The transition to the outfield hasn't impacted Dalton Rushing at the plate one bit as the 23-year-old is slashing .346/.458/.667 with seven home runs in 96 plate appearances this month with a 15.6% walk rate and 19.8% strikeout rate.

While there's not a clear opening for Rushing at the moment, the Dodgers have enough flexibility with Mookie Betts and Tommy Edman to find a way to get Rushing's bat in the lineup close to regularly.

Roman Anthony, Boston Red Sox

Given that Roman Anthony is an elite prospect who is hitting well in Triple-A, the urge to stash is going to be tempting. Since the beginning of July, Anthony is slashing .319/.383/.573 with 10 home runs and 10 steals in 37 games and is currently on a seven-game hitting streak with three home runs during it.

However, with Boston scuffling and now five games back of the third wild card spot, I'd be surprised if they brought up Anthony this season. There's a chance here, but I'd say sub-20%.

Samuel Basallo, Baltimore Orioles

Another elite prospect to get the bump to Triple-A recently is Samuel Basallo. But unlike Anthony/Boston, I could see Basallo getting a shot down the stretch as Baltimore is in the thick of both the AL East race and the wild car picture with a 98.9% to make the postseason according to Fangraphs.

You might think, "But what about Mayo?" Well, Baltimore has been alternating who gets a shot all season with their young guys, so it wouldn't shock me if Basallo jumped Mayo to get a call-up.

It's still a sub-25% chance in my eyes, but Basallo could split time between first base, DH, and maybe even some time behind the plate, and his potent bat would be highly intriguing with that catcher eligibility attached.  In 106 Double-A games this season, Basallo slashed .289/.355/.465 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and nine steals.

Jacob Wilson, Oakland Athletics

After missing around a month with a hamstring injury, it sounds like Jacob Wilson will return to Oakland's lineup this week after spending the last seven games with Triple-A Reno, starting five of those in the field. Wilson picked up nine hits in those seven games, including seven in his last four games, with five RBI and only one strikeout.

The lower power/speed blend limits Wilson's fantasy impact, but he could be a good source of AVG and runs down the stretch for fantasy teams.
