Harrison Burton Shocks The World With His First Cup Win At Daytona
4 months agoHarrison Burton shocked the NASCAR world by obtaining his first career Cup Series victory during Saturday's Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Starting from the 20th position, Burton laid back and bided his time until later in the race. In the first stage, Burton stayed out of trouble and placed 34th, failing to score stage points. Burton slowly worked his way up through the pack in the second stage but could not collect stage points again, as he ended in the 18th position. In the final stage, Burton kept riding with the pack, avoided several crashes, and kept his car clean. This resulted in Burton being able to restart on the front row against Kyle Busch during the race's final overtime restart. On the final lap, Burton received a push from Parker Retzlaff for Burton to charge past Kyle Busch, and among the final two corners, Burton blocked Busch to gather his first Cup win in 98 starts and the 100th overall victory for Wood Brothers Racing. Burton will look to keep the momentum going from his first victory as the Cup Series heads to Darlington, one of his better tracks, where he has two top-15 finishes and four finishes with positive Place Differential in five career Cup starts.
