Jahan Dotson Traded to Eagles
Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick were traded to the Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick and two sevenths in the 2025 NFL Draft. Dotson never lived up to his mid-first-round draft capital, and Washington's new ownership group is trying to salvage as much as they can while moving on.
Dotson scored two touchdowns in his first NFL game and finished the season tied for 15th with seven receiving touchdowns. But he only gained 523 yards and only had a single 100-yard game.
In his second season, he gained even fewer yards, despite playing in five more games than he did as a rookie, and his touchdown total regressed to four. He was held without a catch in three games and averaged just 16.6 yards in his last five games as a Commander.
What Is the Fantasy Impact of the Jahan Dotson Trade?
The limited draft capital the Eagles had to invest to acquire Dotson, his spot on the depth chart, and the nature of the Eagles' offense all point to Dotson losing value with the move.
Last season, the Commanders threw the ball 37.4 times per game, the second-most, while the Eagles only attempted 33.2 passes per game, the 21st-most. The Eagles have always utilized run-heavy schemes under coach Nick Sirianni.
Sirianni's Eagles ranked No. 2 in rush attempts in 2021, No. 3 in 2022, and No. 6 in 2023. The $37.8 million contract the Eagles gave to Saquon Barkley this offseason signals they will continue to focus on running the ball.
For the Commanders, the trade doesn't impact Terry McLaurin's value significantly, but it does open up a battle for the No. 2 receiver spot between rookie Luke McCaffrey and veterans Olamide Zaccheaus and Dyami Brown.
Jahan Dotson 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
While new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has a track record of executing successful passing offenses, Dotson will be deep on the depth chart. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are clearly the better receivers, and tight end Dallas Goedert is also a key target.
Dotson's PFF grade dropped from 70.5 as a rookie to just 57.7 last season. He lined up in the slot for 42.1% of his passing snaps, and he figures to line up in the slot often with the Eagles.
Dotson's dynasty value had already been declining this preseason, as he had been playing late in games. His value continued to decline after the trade. He fell from the rank of dynasty WR55 in mid-August to WR74 as of publication.
Meanwhile, since the trade, he is going at an ADP of WR69, just ahead of Quentin Johnston, in redraft leagues.
