Xavier Edwards Exits Game Early With Lower Back Discomfort
4 months agoMiami Marlins shortstop Xavier Edwards (back) was removed from Friday night's game against the Chicago Cubs with lower-back discomfort, the team announced. Edwards came out after the second inning and was replaced by Vidal Brujan. The 25-year-old hit a single and stole a base before being taken out. The switch hitter has been having a very solid year with the Marlins, hitting for a .345 BA and a 137 OPS+. As of now there's been no other comment on his status so Edwards should be considered day-to-day until otherwise stated. If Edwards is forced to miss any time the Marlins will certainly have a void at the top of the lineup as his strong contact hitting skills have made Miami a stingy underdog with him leading off. Vidal Brujan should be expected to pick up Edwards' playing time if Edwards is forced to miss much time. Brujan is not a viable fantasy option as his .278 wOBA is paired with an even worse .260 xwOBA. Fantasy managers should be able to find better options on their waiver wire.
