Wandy Peralta Starting Rehab Assignment On Friday
4 months agoSan Diego Padres left-handed reliever Wandy Peralta (thigh) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Friday night. Peralta threw a successful live batting practice session on Tuesday and has now been cleared to start a rehab assignment. The 33-year-old southpaw is attempting to return from a strained left groin that has kept him on the sidelines since before the All-Star break on July 9. The Dominican reliever probably won't need more than a handful of outings on the farm before the Padres have him rejoin their big-league bullpen. Given all the additions to their bullpen at the trade deadline in late July, Peralta is likely to operate in more of a low-leverage role upon his return. In his 41 appearances out of the bullpen this year, he's been shaky with a 4.50 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP and only 20 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.
