Yu Darvish Reinstated From Restricted List, Returned To 15-Day Injured List
3 months agoThe San Diego Padres reinstated right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow, personal) from the restricted list on Friday and returned him to the 15-day injured list. Darvish will rejoin the team in San Diego on Friday for their game against the New York Mets at Petco Park. To make room on the 40-man roster, infielder Matthew Batten was designated for assignment. The 38-year-old Darvish has not pitched since suffering a strained left groin in May 29. He then experienced right-elbow inflammation before being put on the restricted list due to a personal matter. The veteran Japanese hurler isn't ready to return to the Friars' starting rotation, but he's been throwing on his own and took part in a live batting practice session back on Aug. 12. It's unclear when he might come off the IL, and Darvish is running out of time to make a difference for fantasy managers in the final month of the season.
