Denny Hamlin Recovers to Ninth After Sunday Spinout
3 months agoDespite starting on the pole according to the scoring metric after qualifying was rained out, Kyle Larson made a three-wide pass on Hamlin, and eventual winner Tyler Reddick and Hamlin never led at the line. He certainly came close as he was running second directly behind Bubba Wallace late in Stage 1 when he spun out. Although he could not make it back to the front, he made a plodding, methodical drive on the Monday portion of the race to ultimately finish ninth. Although Reddick took the points lead with his win, Hamlin remains very much in the picture for the regular season points lead. He overtook Larson after his crash to improve from fourth to third in points, but he fell from 21 to 28 points behind. The regular season championship might come down to whoever doesn't crash at Daytona.
