The 2024 NFL preseason is nearly over, meaning the regular season is almost here. With fantasy football drafts picking up over the upcoming weekend, who should be the top pick?
There are several players worthy of the 1.01 pick this year. Two of those players are San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
However, which one should fantasy players draft first in 2024? Let’s dive into their fantasy football outlooks.

Christian McCaffrey 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
McCaffrey was the RB1 last season, averaging 22.4 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He was the only non-quarterback to average over 20 fantasy points per game in 2023.
The superstar had 272 rushing attempts for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading the NFL in yards. Furthermore, McCaffrey also had 67 receptions on 83 targets for 564 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Unfortunately, he is dealing with a minor calf injury that will keep him from playing in the preseason. However, he is close to returning to practice and should be ready for the Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets. Unless McCaffrey reinjures his calf or suffers a new injury, the veteran is the favorite to be the RB1 again in 2024.
Tyreek Hill 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Hill was the WR2 last year, averaging 19.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. While he finished behind CeeDee Lamb in total fantasy points, Hill had a slightly higher average (19.8 vs. 19.7). The superstar had 119 receptions on 171 targets for 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 games as the focal point of Miami’s passing attack.

While he should have another productive season in 2024, Hill is on the wrong side of 30 and is dealing with a minor hand injury. More importantly, the Dolphins should have a more balanced passing attack between Hill and Jaylen Waddle after trying to get the veteran the receiving yardage record last year.
Who Should I Draft in Fantasy Football?
Fantasy players should be happy drafting either superstar with a top-8 pick. However, McCaffrey has more upside and a safer floor. The only way McCaffrey isn’t the RB1 again in 2024 would be because of an injury. Meanwhile, Hill could have another top-5 finish but is far from a lock to finish as the WR1 this season.
