Bubba Wallace's Strong Start Is Ruined By A Mid-Race Crash At Michigan
4 months ago23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace placed 26th in this year's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Starting from the fifth position, Wallace showcased one of the best cars in the field early, as he went all the way up to the lead on lap 36 in the first stage. After pit stops shuffled the field after the first caution, Wallace went from the middle of the pack to fourth, collecting stage points in the first process. Once the race resumed on Monday after a weather delay, Wallace continued to run inside the Top 5 in the second stage, even across green flag pit stops. After the caution came out on lap 108 for multiple drivers having tire issues, Wallace went to pit for tires and fuel, putting himself in the middle of the pack again. When the race restarted on lap 113, Wallace was making up positions until he got caught behind Kyle Larson in the middle of a multi-car accident. Although Wallace survived the crash, the speed of his car never recovered for the rest of the race. The No. 23 driver would finish one lap down and obtain his worst finish of the year since wrecking out at New Hampshire back in June. As the Cup Series moves onto Daytona, Wallace is expected to be a top contender as he has five top-5 finishes in 13 starts at the site, including the Daytona 500 earlier in the season.
