Expect Denny Hamlin To Compete For The Win At Michigan
4 months agoSince qualifying was canceled and the NASCAR rulebook set starting positions, Denny Hamlin will start in the pole position for the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. It will be just the second time in his Cup career that Hamlin will start right at the front at Michigan. In 33 races at the site, Hamlin has two wins, 18 top-10 finishes, and 262 laps led, which is the fourth-most of all drivers in the field. Hamlin has been one of the best performers in Michigan recently, as he led in each of the last eight Cup events at the site and placed 11th or better every time. This includes four consecutive top-5 finishes in the last four races at MIS. In 23 races so far in 2024, Hamlin has three wins, nine top-5 finishes, and 896 laps led, which leads all drivers. In practice, Hamlin ranked 20th in overall lap averages and 22nd in five consecutive lap averages. Regardless of his slow practice speeds, Hamlin will start with a clean-air advantage, and with Michigan being one of his best tracks, he is one of the top favorites to compete for the win.
