8 months agoToronto Blue Jays infielder Spencer Horwitz and outfielder Joey Loperfido will take a seat on Saturday as the Blue Jays will face left-handed pitcher Justin Steele. Horwitz has started every game this month, so he will be getting a deserved day off, while Loperfido will once again take a seat against a left-handed pitcher, as he has made only four starts against them this season. As a result, George Springer will shift to DH to cover for Horwitz, while Davis Schneider will cover left field for Loperfido. Horwitz has held a modest .229 AVG this month, while Loperfido holds a disappointing .132 AVG. Horwitz could return to the lineup on Sunday, but fantasy managers should expect Loperfido to take a seat again as the Cubs are scheduled to send out lefty Shota Imanaga in the series finale. Both Springer and Schneider are best to leave off your DFS lineup this afternoon as Steele holds a solid 3.16 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP through the summer and allowed just one run in his previous start.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (neck/back) is in Friday's starting lineup for their split-squad game against the New York Yankees. Loperfido has been sidelined since Tuesday after colliding into the outfield wall. He did not have any concussion symptoms and was sidelined for the next few days. However, seeing him return to the lineup on Friday suggests this injury was not very serious. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in case he faces a setback. Last season, Loperfido made his MLB debut and held a .214/.264/.350 line with four home runs and four stolen bases. He held a high 36.3 percent strikeout rate. However, in the minors, Loperfido flashed elite power as he launched 13 home runs with a .933 OPS across 39 games. Loperfido is expected to compete for the left field job during spring training.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (neck/back) is expected to go through a full workout on Thursday and could return to the starting lineup on Friday. Loperfido avoided a serious injury on Tuesday when he collided into the center field wall. Loperfido did not have any concussion symptoms and is not expected to miss any significant period of time. If the 25-year-old progresses well during Thursday's workouts, he could be cleared to return to game action. Last season, Loperfido made his MLB debut and held a .214/.264/.350 line with four home runs and four stolen bases. However, at the Triple-A level, the Duke product flashed high power upside as he launched 13 home runs with a .568 SLG and a .933 OPS across 39 contests. Fantasy managers should expect Loperfido to open the season as Toronto's starting left fielder.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (head/neck) does not have concussion symptoms. Loperfido is instead dealing with upper back and neck discomfort. He is expected to undergo more testing on Wednesday. The 25-year-old sustained this injury during Tuesday's Cactus League contest when he crashed head-first into the outfield wall. However, it appears that Loperfido avoided any serious injuries. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he may not miss much time. The Duke product made his MLB debut last season and held a .214/.264/.350 line with four home runs and four stolen bases across 81 games. He held a high 36.3 percent strikeout rate. Loperfido flashed upside power at Triple-A as he went deep 13 times in just 39 games but has yet to show this in the major leagues. He will likely open the season as Toronto's starting left fielder.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

1 month agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Joey Loperfido (head, neck) left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game early against the St. Louis Cardinals with an apparent head/neck injury after crashing into the center-field wall awkwardly. Loperfido got up holding the back of his head/neck area and left the game after manager John Schneider and team trainers came out to check on him. We'll have an update on the 25-year-old's condition when the Blue Jays know more about his injury. Loperfido debuted in the big leagues in 2024 with the Houston Astros before being traded to Toronto. In 81 combined games, he hit .214/.264/.350 with a weak .614 OPS, four homers, 25 RBI and four stolen bases. Loperfido is competing for an outfield job this spring in Toronto. He'll need to cut down on his strikeouts to realize his 20-20 potential.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
