New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the 166th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Tracy started his college career as a wide receiver at Iowa, spending his first four seasons with the Hawkeyes.
However, he transferred to Purdue before the 2022 season and became a running back. Tracy had a limited role in his first year with the team but was outstanding last season. He had 113 rushing attempts for 716 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games, averaging 6.3 yards per attempt.
The Giants had high hopes for the rookie running back this year. Tracy was the favorite to be the No. 2 running back on the depth chart behind Devin Singletary. Unfortunately, that all changed earlier today.

Is Tyrone Tracy Jr. Injured Or Healthy?
Tracy suffered a non-contact injury to his lower right leg on a kickoff return drill. The rookie running back muffed the kick and reached for the ball when his leg buckled. The training staff quickly placed an air cast on his leg and carted him off the field. Unfortunately, anytime an air cast is used on a player, their season is likely over because the injury is severe.
Looks like a major injury for rookie RB Tyrone Tracy. He muffed a kickoff and his right ankle/lower leg appeared to buckle as he reached for the ball. They immediately put an air cast on his right leg and carted him off.

Who Is The No. 2 Running Back For The New York Giants?
Singletary will remain New York’s starting running back. He should earn more work in the passing game, with Tracy likely out for the year. However, who will be his primary backup and potential handcuff for fantasy players?
Eric Gray was a fifth-round pick by the Giants in the 2023 NFL Draft. He barely played as a rookie, totaling 17 rushing attempts for 48 yards. However, Gray had an impressive Week 1 preseason performance, rushing for 52 yards and two touchdowns on only four attempts.

While the team will likely add a running back in free agency over the next few weeks, fantasy players should consider Gray the clear-cut favorite for the No. 2 role and a late-round handcuff option for Singletary.
