Yu Darvish Throws Live BP, Could Still Return This Year
4 months agoSan Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish (personal), who has been out since late May, threw a live batting practice session on Sunday at a San Diego-area high school, according to league sources. Darvish has been working out and throwing on his own since he went on the restricted list on July 6 and appeared healthy and in good form, according to multiple observers. He hasn't told the team whether he plans to return in 2024, but his throwing session indicates he is keeping that option open. The Japanese veteran went on the injured list on May 30 with a left-groin strain and was nearing a return in June when he experienced minor elbow inflammation. Then the 37-year-old was put on the restricted list with what manager Mike Shildt called "a personal matter involving his family." The Padres aren't closing the door on Darvish's return, but he's quickly running out of time to make an impact again for fantasy managers.
