Joey Cantillo Called Up To Start Game 1 On Friday
4 months agoThe Cleveland Guardians recalled left-handed pitching prospect Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus on Friday to serve as their 27th man and start in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the hosting division-rival Minnesota Twins. Cantillo, the team's No. 9 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will be making his third major-league start for Cleveland after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits (two homers) while walking three and fanning seven in his first two starts versus the Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles. The 24-year-old southpaw will get another difficult matchup on the road and will most likely head back to Columbus to continue his development after this spot start. In eight outings (seven starts) at Columbus this year, he's posted a 2.79 ERA, A 1.48 WHIP and a 39:19 K:BB in 29 innings pitched. Consider Cantillo a risky fantasy streamer with minimal upside on Friday.
