Spencer Schwellenbach Being Skipped In The Rotation
4 months agoThe Atlanta Braves are saying that right-handed rookie Spencer Schwellenbach will have his next turn in the starting rotation skipped, but not because he's hurt. Schwellenbach's next turn through the rotation was scheduled to come up on Sunday at Coors Field against the hosting Rockies. The Braves are likely just managing the 24-year-old's workload in his first big-league season. The former second-rounder in 2021 out of Nebraska-Lincoln is already 40 innings beyond what he was at in all of last season. Through his first 11 big-league starts in 2024, he's gone 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA (3.46 FIP), a 1.04 WHIP and a 70:10 K:BB in 64 2/3 innings pitched. Schwellenbach will dodge a start at hitter-friendly Coors Field and should instead get another juicy matchup against the Los Angeles Angels next weekend.
