Justin Herbert is facing various transitions at this phase of his career. First, much is expected of him after the Los Angeles Chargers made him one of the NFL's highest-paid quarterbacks. It's not enough that he gets them into the playoffs, but they must win during the postseason.
Second, he will be under Jim Harbaugh, his fourth head coach in five seasons. To attain success, Herbert must learn another system, especially the vocabulary and the deviations from the previous schemes he played with.
Finally, he must learn to stay healthy because he has been injury-prone lately. In addition to his season-ending index finger injury last year, he's facing another injury this offseason that left him on a "week-to-week" basis.

Justin Herbert Injury Update
Multiple news sources confirmed that Herbert has a plantar fascia injury in his right foot. The injury was discovered after their July 31 practice during training camp. Unfortunately, the former Offensive Rookie of the Year must wear a walking boot for at least two weeks before the team doctors assess his status.
Herbert's foot injury limits his participation during Chargers practices, making it challenging for Harbaugh to install more of his offense. But in the video below, the 2021 Pro Bowler is still taking first-team snaps without contact during scrimmages.

The former Oregon standout will only be removed from the top spot in the quarterback depth chart unless he is not cleared to play. Easton Stick, Max Duggan, and newly-signed QB Luis Perez couldn't offer what Herbert has delivered for the Chargers since 2020.
When is Justin Herbert Returning?
The Chargers claim that Herbert will be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 season when they face the Las Vegas Raiders at home. However, they won't force him into action until then, meaning he might not take a snap during the Chargers' three preseason games.
In addition to bouncing back from injuries, Herbert will find motivation to play better after completing his worst season as an NFL quarterback. When the injury bug isn't plaguing him anymore, Herbert is a legitimate QB1 option in fantasy football.
While RotoBaller projects his 2024 numbers at 4,175 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, his injury led to his ADP dropping by 13.5 spots to 114.5. Despite the lower placing, he's a solid option for your roster's primary quarterback if pivot replacements are reasonably available.
