Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Smacks Homer, Collects Three Hits In Loss
4 months agoToronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a great day at the plate, smacking a solo HR, a double and a single in Toronto's 8-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Saturday. Guerrero's solo shot came in the first inning off Yankees starter Carlos Rodon, his 28th HR on the season. The 25-year-old improved his OPS to .929 on the season, though his strong efforts weren't enough as the Blue Jays' record fell to 51-60. Vladdy's 2024 is on pace to be the second best season of his career with a 157 OPS+ and 4.0 bWAR coming into Saturday, trailing only his 2021 marks that saw him finish second in AL MVP voting. Though Toronto's season is reeling (10.5 GB in the wild card race) Guerrero Jr. continues to be a bright spot for the Blue Jays. Fantasy managers should continue to keep him in their starting lineups as often as possible. He'll look to continue his hot streak on Sunday against scheduled starter Gerrit Cole, who he is 11-32 against with two HR and three doubles in his career.
