Mookie Betts Taking Batting Practice, Getting Closer To A Return
4 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that middle infielder Mookie Betts (hand) will be taking batting practice at Petco Park before Wednesday's contest against the division-rival San Diego Padres, and it's "very realistic" for him to return in a couple of weeks. If Betts does go on a minor-league rehab assignment once he's cleared for live action, it could be a short one before the former MVP returns to LA's starting lineup. The 31-year-old eight-time All-Star has been out since fracturing his left hand on a hit-by-pitch on June 16 but should be stashed in all fantasy formats as a difference-maker at the top of one of the best lineups in baseball when he's healthy. When Betts returns, the Dodgers have hinted that he'll see most of his starts at second base. Betts was hitting a cool .304/.405/.488 with an .892 OPS, 10 homers, 40 RBI and nine steals in 72 games before his injury.
