Starling Marte To Begin Rehab Assignment Next Week
4 months agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee), who is on the 10-day injured list with a bone bruise in his right knee, will fly with the Mets to Anaheim to continue working with team trainers this weekend before joining Single-A St. Lucie on Monday on a rehab assignment. Marte expects to join Double-A Binghamton for more minor-league rehab games by the end of next week. Barring a setback, the 35-year-old veteran outfielder should rejoin the big-league lineup around the middle of August. Because he's been out since late June, the Mets are going to give him plenty of at-bats in the minors to get his timing back at the plate. When he's ready, Marte will return to starting duties in right field in Queens. Before his knee injury, he was slashing a strong .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 245 at-bats.
