4 months agoThe New York Yankees were in on right-hander Jack Flaherty before the Detroit Tigers dealt him to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline on Tuesday for two minor-league prospects, but according to sources briefed on discussions, the Yankees backed out of a preliminary trade for Flaherty after reviewing his medical records. A lower-back injury forced Flaherty to miss a start early in July and receive two injections in a span of three weeks. Since returning, he has a 1.53 ERA in 17 2/3 innings over three starts. On the year, it's been a resurgent season for the 28-year-old, as he has a 2.95 ERA in 106 2/3 frames. Flaherty has been asymptomatic since getting treated, and his performance hasn't suffered, but the Yankees perhaps just didn't want to take the risk after recently being burned on a trade for Frankie Montas in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
