Guardians Acquiring Alex Cobb From The Giants
4 months agoThe Cleveland Guardians are finalizing a deal to acquire right-hander Alex Cobb (hip, finger shoulder) from the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, according to sources. It's unclear exactly what the Guardians will send to the Giants in exchange for Cobb, but it's unlikely to be a substantial return in terms of prospects since Cobb has yet to pitch in 2024 due to multiple injury setbacks. The 36-year-old had offseason hip surgery and then suffered setbacks with his shoulder, and most recently, a blister issue. With Cobb leaving San Fran, it means that rookie Hayden Birdsong should have a rotation spot to close out the year. Cobb could make his season debut this weekend with the Guards, but fantasy managers should temper expectations for a veteran pitcher that has never missed a ton of bats in his career. At best, he'll be a deep-league, matchup-based streamer. UPDATE: The Guardians are sending the Giants pitching prospect Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later.
