Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Worthy had a productive college career, totaling 197 receptions for 2,755 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in three years at Texas.
Many fantasy football players have high hopes for the former Longhorn star because of Patrick Mahomes. The superstar quarterback hasn’t had an explosive wide receiver like the rookie since the team traded away Tyreek Hill.
Unfortunately, Worthy is a smaller-framed wide receiver and more susceptible to injuries.

Xavier Worthy Injury Update For Fantasy Football
Worthy is an explosive speed demon-type wide receiver, meaning he is more likely to suffer a hamstring injury compared to bigger and slower pass catchers. Unfortunately, the talented rookie suffered a hamstring injury earlier this offseason. Thankfully, he is at training camp and ready to go.

Xavier Worthy Fantasy Football Outlook
The Chiefs have a talented receiving core. Travis Kelce will remain Mahomes’ top pass catcher. Marquise Brown has been a No. 1 wide receiver for most of his career. Rashee Rice had an outstanding end to his rookie year but had some off-the-field troubles this offseason. Meanwhile, Worthy has been building chemistry with Mahomes during camp.

Fantasy players should be excited and cautious with the rookie receiver. Worthy is a talented player and could be a league winner in the second half of the year. However, Kansas City likely will limit his workload early in the season. Rice didn’t become a full-time player until the final third of last year despite the team lacking impactful wide receivers.
That won’t be the case in 2024, with Rice being a young star and Brown a proven veteran. The Chiefs won’t need to put more on Worthy’s plate until he can handle it. Therefore, fantasy players who draft the explosive rookie receiver must prepare to hold him on their bench with little fantasy value until after Halloween.
