When it comes to selecting a quarterback in your 2024 fantasy football draft, there are usually two schools of thought. Pay up for one of the top options or try to find the next breakout signal-caller later in the draft.
There’s merit to both sides of the debate. What’s not up for debate though- having an elite quarterback on your fantasy team can help you win a title.

1.) Jalen Hurts - Philadelphia Eagles
Fresh off an overall QB2 finish last year, Hurts gets a new offensive coordinator for the 2024 season. Former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator takes over play-calling duties for the Eagles in 2024. Moore’s offenses have traditionally been very pass-heavy and have averaged 614 pass attempts per year. It’s unlikely that we see this kind of passing volume, but it’s a good bet that Hurts throws more than we’ve ever seen before.

It remains to be seen how Jason Kelce’s retirement affects the “tush push”, and Hurts may experience some touchdown regression as a result. However, the increase in passing volume should be enough to offset things. Expect Hurts to make a run at the overall QB1 once again in 2024.
2.) Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills
Like Hurts, Allen also has a new offensive coordinator for the 2024 season. Although, unlike Hurts, Buffalo’s new offensive coordinator might be bad news for the passing game. After Joe Brady took over for the fired Ken Dorsey last year, Allen averaged fewer pass attempts, yards, and passing touchdowns per game under Brady than he did compared to Dorsey. Brady now takes over as play-caller on a full-time basis in 2024. If the trends from 2023 continue, then we can expect to see Allen’s passing volume decline.
Allen’s wide receiver room also took a hit after the team parted ways with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason. Allen still has a solid floor thanks to his rushing output. However, the new play-caller and lack of elite receivers could prevent him from another overall QB1 finish.
3.) Patrick Mahomes - Kansas City Chiefs
The 2023 season was disappointing for Mahomes from a fantasy football standpoint. He only finished as the overall QB8 and QB12 in fantasy points per game. Most of it was due to a lack of play-makers behind Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice. Some also had to do with the type of coverage Kansas City faced. The Chiefs saw a larger amount of two high safety looks, and this made it difficult for the offense to find big plays. Make no mistake though, Mahomes is still capable of blow-up weeks.

Mahomes has talked about wanting to bring the deep passing game back to the offense this year. The additions of Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown will help in this regard. If that is the case, then Mahomes is primed for a bounce-back campaign.
4.) Lamar Jackson - Baltimore Ravens
Jackson remains one of the top fantasy football quarterbacks thanks to his elite dual-threat abilities. Fresh off his second league MVP award, Jackson is primed for another big year.

Baltimore has spoken at length about giving Jackson more freedom within the offense this season. It’s clear they are continuing to build their offense around him, and he still has the benefit of playing with Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews. The addition of running back Derrick Henry should only make life easier for the two-time league MVP. Gamers can safely draft Jackson as a QB1 and expect another prolific season.
5.) Anthony Richardson - Indianapolis Colts
While his 2023 was cut short due to injury, Richardson showed off his immense talent. In the two games he started and finished as a rookie, Richardson scored 33.6 and 23.92 fantasy points for an average of 28.76 fantasy points per game. Richardson would have finished as the overall QB1 last year at that pace. This came in an extremely small sample, but it gives us a glimpse of his fantasy ceiling.
Given all the injuries he suffered as a rookie, it’s fair to wonder if his body will hold up over a full 17 games. However, Richardson possesses the type of upside that can break fantasy football. An overall QB1 finish is within the realm of possibilities. He just needs to stay healthy to have a chance.
6.) Kyler Murray - Arizona Cardinals
After missing the first nine games of 2023 recovering from a torn ACL, Murray returned to the field and still looked like the same dynamic weapon we saw before his injury. He wound up finishing as the QB9 in points per game. Not a bad showing considering everything that was working against him and the Cardinals last year.
The team’s receiving room got a massive boost when they added Marvin Harrison Jr. in the NFL Draft. He should make an immediate impact the moment he steps on the field. Third-year tight end Trey McBride also remains in the mix and will be a major factor. Murray now has two uber-talented pass catchers at his disposal and has previously proven he has elite fantasy football upside. With another year in offensive coordinator Drew Petzing’s system, gamers can expect Murray to fully return to form in 2024.
7.) C.J. Stroud - Houston Texans
Stroud is without a doubt a talented and ascending player. However, his lack of rushing poses a threat to his fantasy football upside. While he has arguably the most talented receiving trio in the league (Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Stefon Diggs), the offseason addition of Joe Mixon suggests Houston may prefer a strong rushing attack as opposed to a pass-heavy approach.
We should all expect Stroud to improve in Year 2 and build upon last year’s QB10 finish in fantasy points per game. However, we should also realize that it’s going to take a truly special season for Stroud to crack the top five fantasy quarterbacks. That’s a possibility, it’s just not guaranteed.
8.) Joe Burrow - Cincinnati Bengals
Burrow would like to forget his 2023 season. He posted his lowest marks in touchdown percentage, completion percentage, yards per attempt, and QBR since his rookie year. A season-ending wrist injury was the final nail in a forgettable 2023.
The fifth-year veteran is now fully healthy entering 2024 and is looking to get back on track. Burrow has finishes of QB4 and QB7 on his resume, so we know he can deliver the goods. He's still surrounded by Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins as pass catchers and also has a talented rookie in Jermaine Burton at his disposal. The 2024 season could be fun for the Bengals signal-caller.
With questionable options available at running back, Cincinnati might be forced to finally run their offense fully through Burrow. A career year is possible, and Burrow is ready to remind the league he’s one of its top quarterbacks.
