4 months agoAfter several years racing almost exclusively for second-rate and third-rate teams, Ty Dillon is making his first start for his grandfather, Richard Childress's team since 2015. Unfortunately for him, he is doing so at a time when their cars are arguably slower than they have been since at least 2019. Dillon has been assigned crew chief Keith Rodden, who is usually extremely mediocre. However, he nonetheless delivered one moment of glory in winning the 2017 Brickyard 400 with Kasey Kahne in a chaotic crashfest. Dillon qualified 24th, far behind his brother Austin but actually well ahead of Kyle Busch. Ty Dillon's record of four straight finishes of 21st or better for Germain Racing is actually solid, but the weird pairing of a below-average driver with a below-average crew chief in a one-off when said crew chief only won a flukish race with a completely different package does not inspire confidence.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
