Sean Murphy On Bench For Game 1 Of Doubleheader
4 months agoAtlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy is on the bench for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Murphy was also scheduled to rest in the series opener on Friday before the contest was postponed due to inclement weather in Atlanta. Murphy will likely start the second game on Saturday, but Travis d'Arnaud will start behind the plate in Game 1 and will hit sixth against Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson. In 18 career at-bats versus Gibson, d'Arnaud has hit .278 with a .683 OPS and two RBI. The 29-year-old Murphy missed significant time in the first half of the season due to injury, and it seems the Braves want to rest him regularly while keeping d'Arnaud's bat in the lineup. Murphy made his first All-Star team in 2023 but hasn't been able to find his stride this year, batting .211 (23-for-109) with five homers and 12 RBI in 33 games.
