Zebby Matthews Promoted To Triple-A
4 months agoThe Minnesota Twins promoted right-handed pitching prospect Zebby Matthews to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday. Matthews has risen quickly through the team's minor-league system, going all the way from High-A Cedar Rapids with his stuff continuing to play up without sacrificing his impeccable control (91 strikeouts and only six walks in 78 innings pitched). The 24-year-old was drafted in the ninth round in 2022 out of Western Carolina University and is now on the doorstep of his MLB debut. The club's No. 19 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, posted a sparkling 1.95 ERA and 0.76 WHIP with 63 punchouts and six walks in 55 1/3 innings over 10 outings (nine starts) at Double-A Wichita to receive his latest promotion. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder's stuff doesn't really stand out on its own, although his cutter may be his best offering. Matthews' command is exceptional, but he has a limited ceiling at the big-league level.
