Alex Bowman Captures Third Place At Pocono
4 months agoHendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman finished third in Sunday's Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway. Starting from the sixth position, Bowman steadily remained in the top 10 through the first stage. After the first caution on Lap 14, Bowman stayed out of the pits for the rest of the first stage, placing sixth and scoring stage points. In the second stage, Bowman went to pit road twice but took advantage of a two-tire strategy call on his second stop for track position. As a result, the No. 48 Chevrolet driver ended the second stage in the seventh position and gained more stage points. In the final stage, Bowman avoided chaos and took another two-tire pit stop during Lap 116 and regained track position towards the front. Bowman ran as high as second on the last two restarts of the race, contending for the win with eventual race-winner Ryan Blaney before Denny Hamlin passed Bowman with seven laps to go. At the end of the race, Bowman held on to his best finish at Pocono since winning at the site in 2021. This is also Bowman's second top-five result in a row this season after winning last week's race at Chicago. As the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Indianapolis next on the oval for the first time since 2020, Bowman is hoping the first race at the site with the Next-Gen car could deliver his first career top-10 result.
