The Nationals took Dylan Crews with the second overall pick in last year's draft and a lot of people thought they got a steal as the Pirates passed up Crews for his LSU teammate Paul Skenes.
Well, we know that Skenes was certainly the right pick so far as he's been dominant in the majors, but that certainly doesn't mean that Crews won't have a major impact on a struggling franchise, too.
With Crews's recent promotion to Triple-A, fans and fantasy managers alike have to be wondering if Dylan could be heading to Washington during the second half of the season.
How High Is Dylan Crews's Fantasy Potential?
Crews is finally finding his footing at Triple-A Rochester after a bit of a slow start. In 19 games with Rochester, Crews is hitting .256 with three home runs, 11 RBI, and five stolen bases.
Crews showed he was ready for the promotion to Rochester by hitting .274 with five home runs, three triples, 11 doubles, and 15 steals at Double-A Harrisburg.
The sky is the limit for Crews, but he hasn't dominated at either level just yet - at least not to the same extent that we have seen players like James Wood, Coby Mayo, and others. Crews is far from a finished product, he still has some holes in his swing, and the smart thing might be to let him get more experience at Triple-A before testing him out against major-league pitching.
When Might Dylan Crews Get A Major-League Opportunity?
Crews is certainly capable of being a five-category fantasy contributor upon his call-up. The 22-year-old has power and speed but might need a bit more time at Triple-A to work on cutting down on strikeouts.

With the Nationals being out of contention and having already called up James Wood, there might not be any need to rush Crews's development. I think it's quite possible we see don't see him until September when rosters are expanded and that leaves very few games for him to make an impact this season.
Crews is rostered in 10% of Yahoo! leagues and I would consider leaving him on the waiver wire unless you are in a very deep format and have the flexibility to stash him. Despite his immense upside, it might not be until 2025 that we see Crews make an impact for Washington.
