10 months agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones (lat) is expected to miss "weeks, not days" with his grade two right lat strain, according to Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. General Manager Ben Cherington further expressed that he expects the 22-year-old to return to the mound at some point this season. Earlier this week, the former second-round pick was shut down throwing for at least two weeks before the medical staff determines the next step in his rehab process. The right-hander left his most recent start on July 3 early due to strain in his right lat and was eventually placed on the 15-day injured list on July 4. Prior to the injury, the rookie was performing quite well with a 3.56 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 27:98 BB:K ratio across 91 innings. While Jones remains sidelined, Luiz Ortiz should continue to see time in the Pittsburgh rotation.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller
