Joey Hand Gets First Competitive NASCAR Ride, but Faster on Road Courses than Street Courses
5 months agoAlthough Joey Hand is making his NASCAR Cup Series debut on the Chicago Street Course, his twenty years as a sports car veteran give him more experience than the vast majority of NASCAR regulars. However, his 2011 win at Long Beach was the only one of his 18 IMSA wins that came on a street course, as he tends to perform better on natural road courses. Since Hand is driving for RFK Racing this weekend, this is the first time he has ever made a NASCAR start for a competitive team. Considering Chris Buescher is always competitive on road courses and even Brad Keselowski made the final round of qualifying this weekend, it's quite possible Hand could have some speed. However, since he is starting 38th and is not as good on street courses as he is on road courses even in sports cars, expectations should remain low.
