Xander Bogaerts Beginning Rehab Assignment On Thursday
5 months agoSan Diego Padres infielder Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) will start his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. The 31-year-old veteran is ready to play in games again after a CT scan on Monday showed that his fractured left shoulder is healing properly. Because of the seriousness of his injury and the extended layoff, the Padres think Bogaerts will be on a rehab assignment for seven to 10 days. Either way, he's getting closer to rejoining the big-league lineup and could do so to start the second half of the season. Bogaerts' return will allow Luis Arraez to return to full-time designated-hitter duties, with Jake Cronenworth shifting back to first base. Bogaerts has not lived up to the big deal he signed with SD before the 2023 season and was hitting .219/.265/.316 with four homers, 14 RBI and four steals in 187 at-bats before his injury.
