Matt Vierling Returns On Wednesday
5 months agoDetroit Tigers outfielder/infielder Matt Vierling (foot) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the hosting Minnesota Twins, playing third base and batting leadoff against Twins rookie right-hander David Festa, who will be making just his second major-league start. Giovanny Urshela will move across the diamond to first base and will bat in the eight-hole. Vierling was held out of the starting lineup in each of the last two games due to soreness in his left foot. The 27-year-old will return to a .250/.285/.437 slash line with a .722 OPS, 10 home runs, 33 RBI and 35 runs scored for the Tigers in 268 at-bats this year. Vierling struggled in the month of June, hitting .188 (19-for-101) with three home runs, four doubles, a triple, five RBI, five walks and 25 strikeouts in 24 games played. He'll be hoping to turn things around in his first game in July on Wednesday.
