Zane Smith Shocks The World With Best-Ever Cup Finish At Nashville
5 months agoAgainst all odds, Zane Smith shocked the NASCAR world by finishing second in this week's Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. Starting from the 36th position, Smith displayed a car that struggled to move through the pack, as he ended the first stage in 33rd place. During the second stage, Smith had a hard time staying on the lead lap and did not move past 33rd. In the final stage, Smith made it back to the lead lap thanks to multiple cautions and eventually made a pit stop during lap 242 for fuel and saved it for the long run. Smith continued to avoid the chaos and took advantage of others needing to pit for fuel to work toward the Top 5 on the final restart eventually. Despite falling short of victory, Smith ended ahead of Tyler Reddick to score his best career NASCAR Cup Series finish as well as his first top-5 result. As the Cup Series heads to Chicago next, Smith will visit the track for the first time.
