BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 25% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Could you use a batter that is striking out well below league average and walking well above the league rate? This player is striking out less because of his well above-average contact rate, minuscule SwStr%, and low chase rate. Need some power? This player has a strong barrel rate as well. Would you prefer a hitter penciled in at the top of the lineup? This player has that too. Positional flexibility? Check.
(not included in the above table is his barrel rate of 12.2% and his positional eligibility, which is 1B and 2B)
We're of course referring to Spencer Horwitz and it is just a small sample size. But the 26-year-old was doing many of these things at Triple-A before he was called up earlier this month, notably, walking more than he was striking out (44:41 BB:K). He's a career .307 hitter in the minors over 1660 at-bats with 42 home runs to boot.

One drawback is that he doesn't play against left-handed pitching, so managers need to pay extra attention and swap him out when necessary. Depending on the matchups, it's also not an ideal situation in leagues with weekly lineup changes if the Jays see a run of southpaws. But in leagues with daily lineup changes, the lefty hitter is worth a roster spot in most leagues, especially those that reward OBP. He's currently available in 75% of Yahoo leagues for managers looking to add an upside bat for the rest of the season.
